Building the installation ourselves

From day one physical spatial creation in all scales plays a significant role in learning about architecture at SZE. In addition to constructing models and mock-ups during the design studios, we organise international Creative Weeks and summer building camps, where the scale of building becomes 1:1. Therefore, it was obvious for us to design and build the whole installation ourselves. The preparation of the wall and the creation of the masks using the faces of our students as moulds were done in Hungary in the preceding months to the Biennale. At the end of April the team of students and educators travelled to Venice and transported all the elements of the installation on land and water. We spent 5 days building up the wall and finishing the enlarged sketches, so they fit perfectly with the space behind. The finished space is veiled now, waiting for the grand opening to show our FACES to the world.
